Short answer: "Tu Mil Jaaye" is the first song from Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone's film King, released at midnight on 2 November 2026, Shah Rukh's 61st birthday. Sachin-Jigar composed it, Kumaar wrote the Hindi lyrics, Arijit Singh and Madhubanti Bagchi sing it, and Ed Sheeran adds an English rap he wrote himself. The title, roughly "if I could find you", points to a romantic longing song, but the video wraps it in action scenes from the film. King arrives in cinemas on 24 December 2026.

Why this song is everywhere today

The song went live just after midnight on 2 November, and within about a day the official T-Series upload had passed 26 million views. Three things explain the noise. It is the first look at King, directed by Siddharth Anand, who also made Pathaan. It brings Shah Rukh and Deepika back together on screen. And it pairs Arijit Singh, one of Hindi cinema's most-played voices, with the British pop star Ed Sheeran.

Spelling varies across the internet. T-Series titles the video "Tu Mil Jaaye", NDTV writes "Tu Mil Jaye" and some headlines add "Toh". They are all the same song.

What does "Tu Mil Jaaye" mean?

In Hindi, tu is the intimate "you", mil jaaye means "were to meet" or "were to be found", and the phrase together reads as "if only you were to meet me" or "if I could find you". It is the language of longing: the singer imagines that everything settles once the beloved is found. NDTV and India Today both describe it as a romantic track picturised on Shah Rukh and Deepika.

We are not printing or translating the verses, because the lyrics are under copyright. If you want the line-by-line meaning, the official video and the artists' own channels are the right place. What we can say safely is the shape of the song: a Hindi melody sung by Arijit Singh and Madhubanti Bagchi, plus an English rap section from Ed Sheeran that changes the texture of the track.

What happens in the video

According to India Today and NDTV, the video opens with a spoken line from Shah Rukh in which his character says he is a lover, not a killer, and that his target is his beloved. NDTV notes that the film's poster caption, "Qaatil nahi... aashiq hai", was an homage to Baadshah. The track then moves into an upbeat romantic sequence with Shah Rukh and Deepika dancing against large backdrops, cut with action scenes of Shah Rukh fighting his enemies. Ed Sheeran's rap is lip-synced by Shah Rukh. The video closes with another dramatic line promising a fire that will not stop until it has lit up the world. NDTV adds that the song hints at the "secret mission" that drives the film's plot.

The reunion behind the song

India Today lists the earlier on-screen pairings of Shah Rukh and Deepika as Om Shanti Om, Chennai Express, Happy New Year and Pathaan, and ThePrint notes that this song picks up their chemistry after Jawan (2023). King reunites Shah Rukh with Pathaan director Siddharth Anand. NDTV lists Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Jackie Shroff, Arshad Warsi and Abhay Verma in the cast, and says Kareena Kapoor joins for a special dance number. India Today also names Jaideep Ahlawat and Raghav Juyal.

Reactions: a hit, but not for everyone

Listeners are split, and it is worth saying so plainly. India Today's round-up of social media reaction found fans praising the melody, Arijit's vocals, Ed Sheeran's rap and the Shah Rukh and Deepika pairing. Others said the track sounds familiar, compared it with Pathaan, or criticised the green-screen look and editing of the video. One listener pointed out that Rhythm Shaw's guitars also feature on an earlier hit with a similar groove. Early reactions often shift after a few listens, so treat the first-day verdict as a snapshot and not a final judgement.

How to listen to it

  • Play it once for the voices. Listen for the two Hindi vocalists, Arijit Singh and Madhubanti Bagchi, and then for the point where Ed Sheeran's English rap arrives.
  • Watch the video second. The song makes more sense once you know it is selling both a romance and an action film.
  • Compare it with older Arijit songs. Our credits pages for "Tum Hi Ho" and "Kesariya" make an easy comparison, and one listener in India Today's round-up calls this track a funk-pop chartbuster in the Siddharth Anand mould.
  • Check Ed Sheeran's other work. Our Ed Sheeran page and "Shape of You" credits show the pop side he brings here.
